    PlanetSide 2 - 64bit

Update April 17th - SOE released the x64 client again. To solve our problems we released version 0.9.1.6 which will automatically detect your current running PS2 client. Make sure the Direct3D setting is on Auto under our options.

Update April 16th - SOE removed the 64-bit client again. If you previously were forcing x64 remember to set it back to x86. Version 0.9.1.4 will default to x86 when set on Auto.

Update April 16th - SOE launched the 64-bit client again. If you previously were forcing x86 remember to set it back to x64. Version 0.9.1.5 will default to x64 when set on Auto.

Update 02/04/2014 - SOE Rolled back to 32bit. See instructions under 'I've Updated' to Manually select 32bit.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SOE has announced tonight that they will be releasing the 64bit version of the client in today patch https://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/...il-2nd.180843/. If you are running a 64bit OS (which you all should be considering Windows XP goes end of life next week), then you will automatically run the 64bit version of Planetside 2. 32bit users will remain on the current client.

Why are we mentioning this? The beta in game overlay we have will stop working in this release, because the methods we use to inject the overlay into the client would also need to be 64bit. This will affect other overlay software you have, like Mumble (which will not work either).

The good news is, we've known this was coming down the pipe, and spent a considerable amount of time to rewrite our in-game overlay to support 64bit clients. We will be pushing this release in the beta stream momentarily (version 0.9.1.0). Please update to this version if you want to continue to use the in-game overlay.

    I've updated

As of version 0.9.1.6 Auto will check the PlanetSide2 process to determine if it is 32-bit or 64-bit and change accordingly. This setting is saved internally and will default to that architecture until it sees another change. With all of the silent patching SOE has been doing regarding the 64-bit client it is recommended you leave the overlay architecture on Auto.

Like Planetside 2, if you are running a 64bit computer, the Stat Tracker will automatically run the overlay in 64bit mode by default. If you are running a 32bit Operating System, the tracker will run the overlay in 32bit. If you are running the client in a 64bit operating system, but for some reason need to use the 32bit overlay (i.e. before they patch, or if the patch fails), you will need to go into Tools -> Options -> Configure, and change the Version from Auto to x86. The same can be done to switch back to x64 bit (or auto) again.

Everything should work, but obviously our ability to test in 64bit has been limited since while the test server had a 64bit version running, that's not an ideal test environment (especially since the API doesn't work in test). Please let us know if you experience any issues with as much detail as you can.

So all you've done is rewrote low level DirectX code from 32bit into 64bit? Slack much?

No, that would be unacceptable. There are a number of other bug fixes and improvements you'll see. e.g....

Thanks for all your hard work on this, PS2 was getting a bit stale and this makes it feel like a whole new game. I have beta participation enabled and have not received the 0.9.1.0 update despite relaunching a few times, was just wondering if it had made it into the stream yet? Thanks again.

Problem fixed. You should be able to update now with the client.

    Sorry about that
